I created this Blog to help people help each other to become more Internet wise. I am sure you heard of the expression, "you have to be street smart to survive in this town!"
My last several post have really been introductions to some of the stuff i want to share with my visitors. the goal of this blog is to inform and educate! now i am not saying i know everything there is to know about Online safety, music piracy and various other things i will be posting! Because i don't!
AS a matter of fact i am still learning as i go along. just like everyone else. so i don't want anyone think that i am a know it all. but there are some lessons that i have learned over the years and i think that from my past experiences i can help people avoid some of the problems i have ran into on the World WIde Web.
I am not a rich man and whatever i have i value and since i am not rich and i have a love of computers which everyone knows can be vary expensive if something should go worng with them. i had to learn how to be my own tech. I had to learn how to install my own software and of course i had to learn how to install my own hardware as well.
I can't tell you how many times i had to re-install my own operating system because i could not afford to pay someone to do it for me. i think i have installed every version of windows from win98 to the current Windows Vista. i have done it so may times i think i can do it in my sleep and in some cases after a some major hard drive crashes. i have done it my sleep many times!
I have had many bouts with virus's over the years. at one point i thought i was a magnet for virus's. they are nasty lil buggers aren't they? i have had every major one. hostile windows take over. browser hijacks. you name it i dealt with it one way or another. all on my own. I don't have the luxury of going to a certified Tech to do it for me!
Over my years on the Internet i have learned a few tricks to avoid most virus's and i had to learn how to handle them as they come along as well as learn how to avoid them completely.
my first computer was a Hewlett packerd pavilion which i purchased refurbished. i had no idea what i was doing when i first got it. i didn't even know how to turn it on let alone off. my younger brother had to teach me how to turn it on and shut it down. i knew nothing at all about computers. but i had a willingness to learn. every day i would learn something new. i wanted to know what made my computer tick and how all of it's software ran.
It was not until my first run in with a virus. i had to learn how to handle things myself. when i got a hostile windows take over on my old HP with windows 98. i had to take it to one of the computer shops in my town. where they proceeded to charge me $150.00 for the virus removal.
Ok? i know $150.00 was a lot to pay. but i learned something. A lot of Computer Techs are thieves in the night. A lesson i learned right off the bat.
It was not until my first Hard Drive crash where i learned how to fend for myself. i went about fixing it with one thought in mind, "Well i cant hurt it more then it's hurt now!" I had to teach myself how to replace the hard drive. which after 3 attempts i got it right. then was the fun part! re-installing Windows 98 and trust me when i say, I had no idea what i was doing. no idea what to expect and no idea whether i was doing right wrong!
I thought it was going to be the hardest thing i ever done. it turned out to be quite easy. within 90 minutes i had my computer back again. the install was self explanatory and it was a breeze!
Since then i have installed many different versions of windows so many time i have lost track!
So i wanted to create a Blog to share some of my knowledge with my friends and family. so i do hope you sign up and keep coming back everyday or if not everyday once in awhile. i want a environment where we can learn from each other.
My main goals at this point is to,
Inspire, Inform, Have Fun and share.
